Pope Francis has revealed the letter of resignation he wrote stating that he should be removed from the papacy if his health deteriorates. This is the first time that the Pope has made a public disclosure about the resignation. Pope Francis celebrated his 86th birthday on Saturday.
The Pope has handed his signed letter of resignation to Secretary of State Tarcisio Bertone. That letter was written in 2013 when he was elected as Pope. The content of the letter is that if he is unable to perform his duties due to health problems, he should be removed from the papacy.
