Pope Francis today called on warring factions in Sudan to end the 10-month conflict that has displaced millions of people and raised fears of famine, Reuters reported, citing BTA.

“I again appeal to the warring countries to stop this war that is causing so much damage to the people and the future of the country,” Francis said during his message.

“Let us pray that ways will soon be found to achieve peace for the future of the beloved Sudan,” he added.

Diplomatic efforts have so far failed to end Sudan’s civil war, which pits the country’s armed forces against the paramilitary Rapid Support Force (RSF).

In his traditional Sunday address, the pope also mentioned the conflicts in Mozambique, Ukraine, Israel and the Palestinian territories.

“Wherever there is fighting, the population is exhausted, people are tired of war, which is always useless, fruitless and will only bring death and destruction and will never lead to a solution to the problem,” Francis said.
