“Porco Rosso” by Hayao Miyazaki, a post-war parable to criticize war and fascism

by time news

When “Porco Rosso” (“Kurenai no buta»), Hayao Miyazaki was a name known in Italy only to fans of Japanese anime who had already had the opportunity to be enchanted by his work especially thanks to the television series «Conan – The boy of the future». So much so that the first real sortie of the film in our cinemas had to wait eighteen years (November 2010), almost a decade after the masterpiece «The enchanted city» (2001) and seven years after its announced release on home video by Buena Vista Italia (which then did not see the light due to complicated rights issues). Better late than never. And in any case, newbies (or simply all those who have been able to admire his works only on TV or on homevideo) can enjoy the genius of the Master right in these days when the worthy Lucky Red is redistributing the historical titles in the halls.
