The artist Josep Fernández Margalef was putting the final touches on the mural this past weekend Sails and Vents painted on a wall of Moll Gros in Port de la Selva. It is the first of the creations that took shape in this new edition of Tramuntanart, the twelfth, which this year lasts three weeks, from today until July 16and what it was dedicated to the memory of Carles Bros, who died recently and who was the promoter of this contemporary art exhibition.

A piece of it lent by the family and its model will be exhibited North Eddy that he had prepared but did not have time to make the sculpture serves to illustrate this year’s poster.

More than fifty artists participate in this Tramuntanart coordinated and directed by the artist Núria Pallisera. Many of them are national. Students from the University of Fine Arts of Barcelona and a large group of French creators also stand out.

As detailed by the Councilor for Culture, Lídia Ferrer, many of them came as visitors last year and were charmed. “They liked it a lot and when they were close they saw it as perfect to participate”, corroborates Ferrer who adds that they do not exclude anyone who submits a proposal unless the material is not suitable for being outside. “The artists make a proposal and we try to accept them all”, he confirms.

Something they share is the subject matter – the tramuntana and the natural environment, the landscape of the Port – and the fact of working with the sculptural technique or the installation.

To participate, however, it is necessary for the work to be large format. Pallisera adds that, little by little, they are making it a “more professional” show.

All the works are installed along the Promenade which, like last year, is also lit up at night, which the visitors really liked. The opening is today at half past eight in the evening.

Aside from the sculptors, the Tramuntanart it also reserves a space for muralists. If the first was Margalef, during this week Werens did it with Esclaus s.XXI and Sònia Estévez and Tatu Quera with Dansa del nord. They complete the mural proposals Cèlia Vallès.

As Lídia Ferrer confirms, “they asked the artists to advance the creation so that on the day of the inauguration (this Saturday) they will be finished so that people can visit and enjoy them”.

This year’s murals are in Cal Nin, Ca la Mestra and a couple in Moll Gros. It is worth saying that these creations are renewed regularly.

A painting competition

Another of the novelties of this Tramuntanart is the impetus of a painting competition, Pinta Port, which comes to fill the void that the lack of closed spaces prevents from exhibiting paint.

The competition will take place on Sunday 2 July and is designed for children aged six and up to adults. There will be four categories and prizes such as books, touch tablets, digital watches and a dinner for two at local restaurant Encesa will be awarded.

“We’ll see how it works and, if everything goes well, we’ll try to grow it in future editions”, concludes the councilor.
