In August 2023, the ports of the Tarapacá region, in northern Chile, moved more than one million tons, marking a year-on-year increase of 9.7%. This growth is mainly due to activity linked to exports, which showed an increase of 13.7% in twelve months.

Transit to third parties decreased by 34.2% in the same period. However the cabotage increased its activity by an impressive 21,468.6% compared to the same month of the previous year. In addition, the cargo moved by reloading increased by 22.7% in twelve months.

The bulk cargo moved totaled 725,432 tons, which meant an increase of 15.6% year-on-year. In contrast, the movement of other types of cargo decreased by 3.3% in twelve months, totaling 275,291 tons.

These data reflect the vitality and dynamism of the ports of Tarapacá and their crucial role in the Chilean economy. With their ability to adapt to the changing demands of global trade, these ports are well positioned to continue growing in the coming years.
