The data in the weekly bulletin of the State Commission for Commodity Exchanges and Markets (DKSBT) show a drop in the prices of most basic foodstuffs, fruits and vegetables on the exchanges in the country this week. But several basic products that will be in demand during the Orthodox Easter fast, which starts tomorrow, are going up in price.

The market price index (MPI), which reflects the movement of wholesale food prices in our country, decreased by 0.57 percent to 2,283 points during the week. Last week, the ITC was 2,296 points, BTA informed.

The level of the ITC at the beginning of last year was 2,316 points, and in the first third of March it reached its spring maximum of 2,480 points. The base level of the ITC – 1,000 points – is from 2005.

Imported cucumbers became cheaper by 1.3 percent to BGN 2.95 per kilogram, and tomatoes (import) – by 5 percent to BGN 3.07 per kilogram. The price of potatoes jumped by 0.7 percent and they were traded at BGN 1.36 per kilogram.

Carrots keep their price at BGN 1.25 per kilogram, and ripe onions (import) drop in price by 7.5 percent to BGN 1.48 per kilogram. The price of cabbage rose by 6.9 percent to BGN 1.24 per kilogram, while that of red peppers (import) – by 7.3 percent to BGN 4.69 per kilogram.

The price of imported apples is lower by 1.1 percent and they are traded at BGN 1.81 per kilogram, while the price of lemons remains unchanged – BGN 2.08 per kilogram. Bananas rose in price by 1.1 percent to BGN 2.87 per kilogram, and tangerines by 5.3 percent to BGN 2.37 per kilogram. Oranges became cheaper by 1.5 percent to BGN 2.02/kg.

The price of cow’s cheese fell by 1.4 percent to BGN 10.78 per kilogram, and the “Vitosha” cheese rose by 1.1 percent to BGN 16.90 per kilogram.

Yogurt (3 and over 3 percent fat content) became cheaper by 0.9 percent and was bought at BGN 1.13 for a 400 g bucket, while fresh milk (3 percent fat content) kept its price at BGN 2.25 for liter.

The price of chicken meat drops by 0.5 percent and it is offered at BGN 6.33 per kilogram, and eggs (size M) by 5.3 percent and are bought at BGN 0.36 per piece wholesale at the end of the week.

Rice increased in price by 1.5 percent and is traded at BGN 3.36 per kilogram, and lentils by 0.7 percent and is BGN 4.35 per kilogram, respectively. The price of ripe beans jumped by 1.9 percent to BGN 4.33 per kilogram.

Sugar became cheaper by 3.7 percent and traded at BGN 2.11 per kilogram, while oil rose in price by 1.5 percent to BGN 2.78 per liter. Type 500 flour maintains its price of BGN 1.29 per kilogram, while the price of cow’s butter (125 gram package) rises by 0.8 percent to BGN 2.68 per piece.
