A 31-year-old woman, reportedly seven months pregnant, died hours after being struck by gunfire while purchasing food in the Villa Olímpica neighborhood of Guadalupe, Mexico, on Thursday evening. Authorities are actively investigating the shooting and searching for the perpetrator.
A tragic incident unfolded at approximately 9:20 p.m. at the intersection of Joaquín Capilla and England streets, leaving a community in shock and prompting a swift response from local law enforcement and medical personnel. The victim has been identified as María de los Ángeles Rentería.
Details of the Attack
According to reports, a suspect, believed to be traveling on a motorcycle, opened fire with a firearm before fleeing the scene in an unknown direction. Witnesses described hearing “multiple explosions,” which caused widespread panic and prompted residents to seek shelter. Eight shell casings were discovered at the location, confirming the armed attack and initiating a thorough cordoning off of the area to preserve potential evidence.
Rentería was immediately struck by a projectile, sustaining a gunshot wound to her right buttock. Red Cross paramedics arrived quickly and provided on-site medical attention before transporting her, conscious, to Clinic 4 of the IMSS (Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social). Despite receiving medical care, she succumbed to her injuries hours later.
