El Sheffield United communicate is Tuesday the hiring of Chris Wilder, who already spent five years at the club, as a replacement for Paul Heckingbottom, who was fired today. Wilder was at the club between 2016 and 2021 and managed to promote Sheffield United from League One (Third Division) to the Premier League, where he had a campaign, putting the ‘Blades’ in the top ten at the end of the season, before be fired the following year.

“It is an opportunity that I cannot refuse. Like in 2016, when this club calls you, you cannot pass. It’s Sheffield United, it’s my team and I’m delighted to be back. “I know we are in a difficult situation, I understand it, but I think we can change,” said Wilder, who has signed a contract until 2025.

For its part, Heckingbottom arrived at Sheffield United in November 2021 and last season promoted the ‘Blades’ to the Premier League by finishing second in the Championship (English Second Division) behind Burnley. However, after a difficult summer in which they let some of their best players leave, the ‘Blades’ have lost eleven of the fourteen games they have played in the Premier, they have a difference of -28 goals and the defeat by 5- 0 this weekend against Burnley was the last straw.

Heckingbottom has gone with Sheffield United as bottom of the table, four points from safety, which is marked by Luton Town with nine points. He is also the first coach fired this season in the Premier, after Julen Lopetegui left Wolverhampton Wanderers before the start of the season.
