US President Joe Biden said on Friday that he had instructed the intelligence services and armed forces to further limit the dissemination of sensitive information. He also noted that the authenticity of the documents posted online is still being checked.
In a statement released by the White House, Biden praised the services’ response to the leaked documents.
“While we are still establishing the authenticity of these documents, I have directed our military and intelligence community to take steps to further secure and limit the distribution of sensitive information, and our national security team is working closely with our partners and allies,” Biden said.
The president, who is in Ireland, addressed the leak of documents for the first time on Thursday, saying he was not concerned about the content of the documents posted online, but about the very fact that it happened.
On Friday, 21-year-old National Guard soldier Jack Teixeira, accused of the leak, pleaded guilty to two counts of unauthorized removal and retention of classified national defense documents and information in a Boston court.
