On his way to Israel, Millay said: “I will express my support and solidarity with Israel in the face of the terrorist attack by Hamas and I will emphasize Israel’s legitimate right to self-defense.”

Millay, the far-right libertarian candidate who was elected president of Argentina last November, announced that he would visit Israel even before he officially assumed the position of president and even claimed in his election campaign that “Argentina under my leadership will place the United States and Israel at the top of its political priorities.”

After he was elected president, political figures clarified that from Israel’s point of view this is a positive and welcome change. As mentioned, the new president is considered a clear supporter of Israel and stated in the past that he intends to move the Argentine embassy to Jerusalem. Recently he was even recorded waving the Israeli flag at a pro-Israel demonstration. In addition, in the past he spoke about his connection to Judaism and said that he is considering converting and that he goes to a synagogue and not to a church.
