President Ranil Wickremesinghe has extended his Ramadan greetings to all Muslims living in the world.
In his congratulatory message, he said:
The holy month of Ramadan, considered the ninth month in the Islamic calendar, is considered a month of contemplation and spiritual growth for the Muslim brothers.
An opportunity to celebrate Ramadan
This month of Ramadan is a beacon of well-being and prosperity and fosters unity and religious harmony among us.
As Sri Lankans regardless of caste and religion, we have passed through the difficult period that we all faced and a good environment has developed in the country, and I am happy that our fellow Muslims have the opportunity to celebrate the festival of Ramadan happily this year.
I think it is right to consider the Ramadan fasting period in this country as a time for everyone to share their happiness, not just for Muslims.
To rebuild the economy
I believe that such things, created to uplift collective social values regardless of individual progress, will provide the basis for a collective effort to rebuild Sri Lanka’s battered economy and lead the country to the path of progress.
With the expectation that the values highlighted in Ramadan, including commitment, self-control and tolerance, will serve as the right guide in the journey towards it, I extend my heartiest wishes to the Muslim people of Sri Lanka and the entire world Muslim community for a peaceful and harmonious Ramadan.
