15th Battalion Victory Hospital Visit… “Military Hospitals Must Develop to Become a Truly Advanced Military”
“Thank you for your hard work during the Chuseok holidays”… 1,000 Songpyeon sets provided to military units
On the 17th, Chuseok, President Yoon Seok-yeol visited the 15th Division Medical Battalion, a frontline unit in Gangwon Province, to inspect the emergency medical care system and said, “For a truly advanced military, military hospitals must develop.”
President Yoon visited the 15th Division that afternoon. The 15th Division was selected in accordance with the president’s intention to visit the units dedicated to defending the country at the front lines during the Chuseok holiday and encourage the soldiers.
First, the president visited the 15th Division Medical Battalion’s ‘Seungri Hospital’. ‘Seungri Hospital’ is the registered medical institution of the 15th Division Medical Battalion. After being registered as a medical institution in May, it opened its facilities to residents in medically underserved areas and provided medical services.
President Yoon received a report on the status of Seungri Hospital from 15th Division Commander Kang Hyeon-woo, greeted local residents and military families in Hwacheon County, and then toured the dental clinic, pediatric clinic, ophthalmology clinic, and emergency room.
President Yoon said, “I was heartbroken to hear the grievances of the soldiers’ families and local residents when I visited the 5th Division late last year,” and added, “The government actively pursued the registration of medical institutions for the medical battalions of the forward divisions, and as a result, Seungri Hospital was reborn as a local medical institution by supplementing it with essential equipment that the region desperately needed.”
He encouraged the soldiers working in the emergency room, saying, “Thank you for your hard work even during the Chuseok holiday,” and “I ask that you all work hard so that the 15th Division Medical Battalion can become a model for military medicine.”
President Yoon then moved to the 15th Division headquarters and wrote in the guestbook, “Victory Unit! We are proud and strong.” He then visited the combat control room and received a report on military readiness from the division commander.
President Yoon said, “The 15th Division is a unit with a great tradition, as it was awarded the title of invincible victorious unit by former President Syngman Rhee for annihilating the enemy’s 7th Division in the Battle of Goseong, Gangwon Province during the Korean War.” He added, “I am reassured that the entire division is maintaining a firm readiness posture, befitting its brilliant history and honor.”
President Yoon then asked, “With the conviction to firmly protect the safety of the people and liberal democracy, continue to devote yourself to combat preparation and training as you have been doing.” The president also instructed officers to take good care of all the weapons the division possesses so that they can handle them well.
He also ordered, “If the enemy provokes us, we will respond immediately and overwhelmingly according to the principle of ‘take action first, report later’ to completely crush the enemy’s will.”
He also said, “As the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, I am truly proud of you and have infinite trust in you,” and promised, “As the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, I will do my best to improve your working conditions so that you can focus on your missions without worry, and I will do my best to support you so that you can be proud of the uniforms you wear.”
President Yoon moved to the division review area and took a commemorative photo with the 500 or so division soldiers gathered at the scene. The president said to the division soldiers, “Thanks to you, soldiers, our people can rest comfortably and recharge during the holiday season,” and “National defense and security are the most important functions of a country, and the national economy can only stand on national security.”
President Yoon also said, “We have prepared songpyeon for those who are working hard even during Chuseok,” and provided 1,000 songpyeon sets to the units with the words, “Thank you for your hard work, soldiers.”
Also present at the reviewing stand was Private First Class Kim Nam-joon (RM), the leader of the group BTS, who donated 100 million won to the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs’ ‘Uniformed Service Appreciation Campaign’ on the 12th. Private First Class Kim Nam-joon enlisted in the active-duty army in December of last year and is currently serving in the 15th Division Military Band.
