We are now looking for an experienced press secretary for the national police chief and deputy national police chief at the Swedish Police Agency. The position is located at the National Media Center unit, NMC. It is a permanent position based in Stockholm.

The police authority is Sweden’s largest authority with approximately 37,000 employees organized in seven police regions, a number of national departments with at least one office per region.
The national departments within the Police Authority meet the management’s and operations’ needs for strategic management, operational support and support of a more administrative nature for the entire authority. The departments’ units must together create the conditions for business-driven, professional, accessible support for the entire Police Authority.

One of the national departments, the communications department, is responsible for proactively managing and coordinating the Police Authority’s communication work as well as being a strategic and operational communication support throughout the agency. The department has approximately 200 employees and is located in several locations throughout the country.

Job description

As press secretary for the national police chief and deputy national police chief, you work with the top management’s integrated communication. You are a strategic and operational communication support in a rapidly changing environment with many business visits and a high media pressure in cooperation with colleagues in the communication department throughout the country. You also work closely with the press manager and department manager in the communications department. You are placed at the national media center which is responsible for the police’s media strategy and development of the agency’s media work and crisis communication.

Main tasks:

  • Plan the communication around the national police chief and deputy national police chief in the short and long term, both internally and externally.
  • Act as adviser on media issues to the national police chief and deputy national police chief.
  • Participate in the national police chief’s and deputy national police chief’s operational visits throughout the country.
  • Plan and arrange press meetings and other media activities in relevant channels.
  • Write, photograph, film and publish in social media and in other channels, for example the police’s intranet and polisen.se.
  • Support internal communication efforts, films and meetings.
  • Support the authority in crisis communication.
  • Assist in the communication department’s other work.

The work involves travel and requires some preparedness and inconvenient working hours.

Qualifications

This is an opportunity for you who have:

  • Relevant university education in communication or other education that the employer deems equivalent.
  • Several years’ current experience of working as a press secretary or similar duties.
  • Current experience of acting as an advisor in media matters to management, decision makers and experts.
  • Current experience of working with planned integrated communication.
  • Experience of handling classified information in media and communication contexts.
  • Experience of media work within a larger organization.
  • Current experience of working with crisis communication.
  • Very good ability to express yourself in Swedish and English in speech and writing at a professional level.
  • The position requires Swedish citizenship.
