Tanjung Priok Port Operations Remain Uninterrupted Despite Jakarta Congestion

Despite significant traffic congestion impacting roads near the Semper Toll Road in North Jakarta, operations at the Tanjung Priok Port continue to function normally, according to assurances from PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo) Regional 2 Tanjung Priok. The congestion, primarily affecting areas outside the port’s immediate operational zone, has prompted a coordinated response to minimize disruption to vital trade flows.
Traffic Disruptions and Port Response
A buildup of trucks caused traffic issues on the evening of January 8, particularly on public roads leading to warehouse and depot areas in Cilincing, Marunda, and Cakung Cilincing. This congestion coincided with increased trailer truck activity. However, a senior official stated on Friday, January 9, 2026, that monitoring indicated “no significant queues at the entrance or exit of the port,” and that the entire terminal gate system remained operational.
“Traffic conditions in the Tanjung Priok Port area are monitored to be safe and controlled,” the official added. “Loading and unloading activities, container movement and terminal services are running without interruption.”
Yard Occupancy and Mitigation Efforts
Pelindo confirmed that the yard occupancy ratio (YOR) at the port remains within safe limits. Data collected as of 8:00 WIB on January 9, 2026, showed that the majority of terminals recorded a YOR below the 65 percent standard. This indicates sufficient capacity to handle current cargo volumes and mitigate potential bottlenecks.
To proactively address the congestion on public roads, Pelindo is collaborating with relevant agencies to implement traffic management and operational support measures. These include facilitating limited access for goods transport vehicles via toll lanes, based on situational needs and ongoing coordination.
Furthermore, Pelindo Regional 2 Tanjung Priok is working in synergy with the Transportation Department to provide quick assistance to vehicles experiencing technical difficulties around the port area. This rapid response aims to prevent further traffic buildup on public roads.
Pelindo continues to coordinate closely with the North Jakarta Police, the Tanjung Priok Harbor Resort, the KSOP (Port Authority), the Transportation Department, and other relevant authorities to ensure smooth traffic flow and minimize the impact of congestion in the surrounding area.
