The reaction of the OTA Employees’ Association of the Prefecture of Ioannina is caused by the municipal authority’s intention to entrust a private company with the guarding of the construction site, complaining, in fact, that people from a specific company have already appeared, without there even being a competition in the air for who will take over.
“Forty days the municipal authority of Ioannina endured without hiring new contractors for the services of Ioannina. Finally, following the privatization practice of the government and all previous municipal authorities, he brought in contractors to guard the construction site. The municipal authority, driven by the real fact of the loss of objects from the construction site, instead of proceeding with the supply of equipment and the further staffing of the security service, instead of organizing the site area to secure the machinery and vehicles, plans to assign the storage in a private company. In other words, instead of looking for solutions to the problems, they are looking for private individuals to solve their problems”, she says characteristically and continues with her complaint about pre-determined assignment of the project. “In fact, their haste is so much that the private security company “got a hold” before even signing a contract!”, he notes, explaining that the private company’s employees have been visiting the construction site for a few days now and planning the site security plan, without to have issued a tender and without being able to issue as long as there is no budget. The assessment of the N. Ioannina Municipality Employees’ Association is that the municipal authority has promised this company that it will undertake the work and its employees are collecting the data to do the study, which will later appear as a study of the Municipality to assign the project to same. “Not only privatization, but also a rigged competition”, he complains.
The Association does not disagree with the decision to file a lawsuit against unknown persons for the loss of objects from the construction site, considering that it is the responsibility and competence of the municipal authority to do so, however it expresses its dissatisfaction with the climate that is being formed at the expense of the workers and even verbally of a special partner, who went so far as to accuse all the employees of the Municipality as thieves, as he typically states. “We are not going to allow neither the municipal authority of Ioannina nor anyone to slander municipal employees in general and vaguely in order to legitimize the privatization of services. We demand that every attempt at privatization be stopped and that measures be taken to safeguard the construction site”, concludes the OTA Employees’ Association.
