Director Priyadarshan says that the biggest pressure he faced during the production of his dream project ‘Marakkar: The Lion of the Arabian Sea’ (Marakkar) was around the production cost of the film. Priyan also talks about the difference in budget between the two films when many compare Marakkar with Baahubali. Priyadarshan made the remarks in an interview with The Indian Express. The movie, which hit theaters on the 2nd of this month, was released on OTT a few days ago and reached Amazon Prime.

“The budget of the film put me under more pressure than anything else. It was not like Bahubali, they had a high budget and a lot of time there. We had a tight budget. Our closest rival in that regard was Steven Spielberg,” says Priyadarshan. Although Spielberg has directed several films that have grossed over $ 100 million, his budget for one of his biggest hits, the horror film ‘Zo’ (2004), was only $ 1.2 million. (Current estimate is `9.06 crore). He completed the filming in 18 days. However, the film grossed $ 103.9 million at the box office.

Priyan says that finishing the film on a single schedule was not on a budget but a rush – “If I had split the schedule, the budget would have been abandoned. The whole cast and crew’s journey would have been costly. Priyadarshan says that he does not try to create scenes for fans to applaud when actors, including Mohanlal, appear as heroes in his films.

“I do not do that. I do commercial films but I have some limitations in adding ‘mass’ scenes to them. I can not satisfy the fans completely like that. I want to make films that everyone enjoys. Look at my action films including Abhimanyu and Advaita. , Priyadarshan concludes.
