Probefahrt Genesis G70 Shooting Brake

by time news

Dhe premium brand Genesis, which was only launched in Germany in the summer, is stepping on the gas. A few months after the introduction of the sedans G70 and G80 and the two SUV models GV70 and GV80, the luxury offshoot of the Korean Hyundai group is now launching its fifth model. The G70 Shooting Brake, specially developed for Europe, represents a mixture between an elegant four-door coupé and a sporty multi-purpose car.

With a flat luggage compartment with a capacity of 465 to 1535 liters behind the tailgate with an imposing roof spoiler, the 4.69 meter long and only 1.40 meter high five-seater is more of a chic lifestyle station wagon than a functional packhorse. The low seating position ensures that there is enough room in the rear despite the sloping roof line. The legroom is generous anyway thanks to the 2.84 meter wheelbase. The interior pleases with good equipment, high-quality materials and a pleasantly simple operating concept. As a newly established brand, they don’t want to overwhelm their customers, says Genesis. That probably also applies to the drive.

Although the company’s three battery-electric vehicles are due to hit the market next year, the previous models, including the new mid-range station wagon, only have conventional combustion engines with turbo, but without electric assistance. The two-liter petrol engine is available in two output levels with 197 and 245 hp at prices of 40,300 and 48,810 euros, the 2.2-liter diesel with 200 hp costs at least 42,700 euros. The torque is sent to the rear wheels via a gently shifting eight-speed automatic transmission; the diesel engine and the more powerful petrol engine can also be ordered with all-wheel drive for an additional charge.

On the first test laps, the high-torque AWD diesel was best liked. Of course, the petrol engines also offer powerful power delivery. With a test consumption of more than nine liters, the more powerful Otto was anything but economical. The still rudimentary dealer network – so far there has only been one location in Munich – Genesis offers high levels of service. Maintenance and warranty work is carried out for five years, and the vehicle is picked up at the desired location.
