New Year’s Celebration Turns Violent in Bois-de-Villers: Attempted Murder Investigation Underway
A young man is recovering after being stabbed during a New Year’s Eve incident in Bois-de-Villers, France. The attack, which occurred between 3 and 4 a.m. on January 1, 2026, has led to the arrest of a suspect and an ongoing investigation for attempted murder.
The incident began when a group of young people, primarily minors born in 2008, were playfully ringing doorbells on Rue Elie Bertrand, wishing residents a happy new year. According to reports, the homeowner of one residence confronted the group, and his son, born in 1998, pursued them after they attempted to leave.
The situation escalated quickly. The suspect initially apprehended the young man and engaged in a physical altercation, reportedly tackling him to the ground and delivering punches. However, the assault did not end there.
“The suspect was quickly arrested,” a senior official stated. “During the initial interview, he admitted only to striking the victim with his fists.”
However, evidence at the scene contradicted this initial claim. A knife was discovered, leading authorities to conduct a second interview with the suspect. He subsequently confessed to having a knife concealed in his sweater during the confrontation and using it against the victim.
The injured young man received immediate medical attention. His current condition has not been released. The suspect was taken into custody at the end of the night and is now facing charges of attempted murder. He is scheduled to appear before an investigating judge this Friday, January 2, 2026.
The incident raises concerns about escalating violence and the potential dangers of even seemingly harmless New Year’s Eve traditions. Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack and will be presenting their findings to the investigating judge.
