New Delhi: The recovery of the property tax department of Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has crossed Rs 2,000 crore. So far 11.85 lakh property owners have paid their property tax. The department hopes that the amount of property tax that was received last year will be collected by March 31. With this, property tax collection can reach around last year’s target. According to the information received from the Property Tax Department, apart from government departments, property tax worth hundreds of crores is still outstanding on big taxpayers. Most of the people kept waiting for the scheme, but this time no scheme was brought. Because of this people could not deposit their property tax. He hopes that the remaining taxpayers will pay their property tax in the last days. The department said that in the last few days, a good amount of property tax has been received from CPWD, PWD and Delhi Metro. Then somewhere the figure reached beyond Rs 2,000 crore.

The Property Tax Department had ordered the inspectors posted in each zone to set up five camps each so that more and more people could come to the camps and pay their property tax. Keeping in view the possibility of any kind of fraud in setting up the camp, the head quarter had also ordered to send the video of the camp. This time MCD has set a target of tax recovery of Rs 3,500 crore. Officials say that it is difficult to reach this target but they will try to reach last year’s target (2400 crores) by March 31. Last year, 13.29 lakh people had deposited property tax. The Property Tax Department had planned to activate its inspectors for recovery of property tax. An inspector was asked to set up at least five camps in his area.

More than 150 inspectors of the Property Tax Department are deployed in 2 zones. In this way, there is a plan to set up about 600 camps within 15 days. Officials say that this amount of money will definitely come through the camps organized with the help of RWAs, Market Associations and Group Housing Societies of the area, which will help in reaching last year’s target easily. Therefore, the Property Tax Department has kept its offices open even on Saturdays and Sundays till March 31.
