Minister Geetha Jeevan’s father, N. Periyasamy, who was an unshakable force as Tuticorin DMK district secretary for 30 years, served as the MLA of Tuticorin constituency from 1996 to 2001. During that period, Geetha Jeevan was serving as the President of Tuticorin District Panchayat. During the 5 years of Periaswamy’s tenure as MLA, the income was more than Rs. In 2002, during the ADMK rule, the anti-bribery department police registered a case against N. Periyasamy and his family members for adding property worth 2,31,87,000.
After this, the charge sheet was filed in July 2003. N. Periyasamy was included as the first accused in this case. Second was his wife Ebenezer, third was his eldest son Raja, fourth was his youngest son Jagan (current Mayor of Thoothukudi Corporation), fifth was Minister Geethajeevan’s husband Jeevan Jacob, and sixth was Geethajeevan. The case was pending before the Thoothukudi Chief Criminal Court.
