The United States plans to ban gas stoves citing studies that indoor air pollution causes asthma in children. The U.S. Department of Consumer Product Safety is seeking public comment on this issue.

The agency commissioner is of the opinion that the use of gas stoves is a hidden danger and unsafe ones may be banned. A December 2022 study in the Internal Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health points to gas use in homes as one of the causes of asthma in children. Gas stoves emit nitrogen dioxide and carbon monoxide, which can be harmful in poorly ventilated homes, according to a study that suggests 13% of childhood asthma is caused by gas use.
