While the British capital was in turmoil on Saturday, May 6, on the occasion of the coronation of King Charles III, demonstrators gave voice to express their disagreement with all the decorum and solemnity of this day: the anti-monarchy activists unfurled banners and signs to shout their desire to abolish the monarchy.

Colin Dear, a 41-year-old teacher, argues that he “does not believe in hereditary monarchy”. A system “which costs a lot of money while many people are struggling and the economy is collapsing”, does he think. For his part, Stephen Harbron, a retired teacher, finds it unacceptable to have “an unelected head of state”.

Six anti-monarchy activists were arrested by London police late morning before the start of the coronation ceremony.
