An unknown chapter of history is open to the people of the Himalayas. The priceless book ‘Unfinished Autobiography’ of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman has been published in Dzongkha language of Bhutan by the initiative of Bangladesh Embassy in Thimpu.
World Health Organization Regional Director for South-East Asia Saima Wazed, daughter-in-law of the Father of the Nation, and Princess Dechen Yangjom Wangchuck of Bhutan unveiled the Bhutanese translation of the Father of the Nation’s ‘Unfinished Autobiography’ at the Jichenkha Auditorium in Thimphu on Monday. Bangladesh Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Mohammad Ali Arafat attended the event.
This information was informed in a press release sent from the embassy on Tuesday (April 2).
Under the leadership of Dasho Karma Uda, the commissioner of Bhutan’s highest research institution Center for Bhutan Studies (CBS) and a renowned Bhutanese writer, ‘Unfinished Autobiography’ was translated into Dzongkha language by the initiative of Bangladesh Embassy in Thimphu.
Bhutan Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Tobgay, Health Minister Tandin Wangchuck, Agriculture and Livestock Minister Yonten Phuntsho, Home Affairs Minister Leonpo Tshering, Industry, Trade and Employment Minister Namgyal Darjee, Ambassador of Kuwait to Bhutan, Ambassador of Bhutan to Bangladesh, Head of Diplomatic Mission based in Thimphu, Secretaries, academicians, intellectuals, researchers and expatriate Bangladeshi citizens were present.
Saima Wazed, WHO Regional Director for South-East Asia, said that the Jangkhaya translation of the Father of the Nation’s ‘Unfinished Autobiography’ will create new opportunities for cultural connection and the book will serve as a milestone for researchers in Bhutan and Bangladesh. Jangkhaya edition of the book will play a significant role in uncovering new information in history. He thanked the Government of Bhutan and the Center for Bhutan Studies (CBS) for completing this invaluable translation.
In his welcome speech at the ‘Unfinished Autobiography’ publication event, Bangladesh Ambassador to Bhutan Shiv Nath Roy paid tribute to the Father of the Nation and detailed the relationship between the Wangchuck Dynasty and the Father of the Nation’s family. He urged Bhutanese intellectuals to use the Jungkhya version of the ‘Unfinished Autobiography’ to uncover unknown facts of history. The Bangladeshi ambassador thanked Dasho Karma Ura and his team from the Center for Bhutan Studies (CBS) for publishing the Dzongkhaya edition.
Besides, counselor Sujan Debnath presented the essence of the book about Bangladeshi and Bhutanese students. The students read out parts of the Jankhya, English and Bengali versions of the book. The book is published by PT Printing, Thimpur. At the end of the event, copies of the book were presented to the guests.
The book will be distributed to libraries, universities, colleges, research centers in Bhutan. The ‘Unfinished Autobiography’ of the Father of the Nation in Bhutanese language will be considered as a new medium of historical connection between Bangladesh and Bhutan. The book will be used to strengthen cultural ties between the two countries.
