Puducherry Deputy Governor Hosts Pongal Celebration, Dodges Question on Deputy Chief Minister Post

Puducherry Deputy Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan presided over the traditional Pongal celebrations at the Governor’s House premises this morning. The event was marked with the traditional inauguration of the Pongal program by offering milk and rice in a pot.

The celebration saw a large number of women participating and celebrating Pongal by making a new pot, followed by a performance by village artists showcasing various traditional forms of art including Manattam, Mayilattam, Tappattam, Karakattam, and Bharatanatyam.

The event was graced by the presence of Chief Minister Rangaswamy, Assembly Speaker Selvam, Ministers Namachivayam, Theene, Jayakumar, Lakshmi Narayanan, as well as Chief Secretary Rajeev Verma, MLAs, and former ministers, with members of the public participating in large numbers.

During the event, when asked to speak, the Governor urged everyone to work together for the development of Puducherry, emphasizing the importance of cooperation for the growth and development of the region.

Following the event, Deputy Governor Tamilisai offered her well-wishes for Pongal and highlighted the significance of incorporating folk art events into celebrations, encouraging the support of rural artists and embracing traditional art forms. She also touched upon various initiatives and advancements in Puducherry, including allocations in medicine for government school children and the promotion of handloom products.

However, when asked about the potential appointment of Minister Udayanidhi as Deputy Chief Minister, Deputy Governor Tamilisai left without addressing the question, leaving speculation about the potential political advancement.
