Chandigarh: Punjabi actor and social activist Deep Sidhu, 37, died in a road accident in Chandigarh. The accident took place on the Sonipat Express Highway in Haryana around 9 pm on Tuesday. Deep Sidhu was named as the accused in a case of clashes at Red Fort on Republic Day last year in connection with a farmers’ strike.
The accident took place while traveling in a car from Delhi to Punjab. The car crashed into the back of the truck. According to police, Sidhu was critically injured and died on the spot.

It was alleged that Deep Sidhu led the procession to hoist the flag at the Red Fort. Sidhu and his men entered the Red Fort after attacking the security personnel and hoisted the Sikh flag there. Earlier, agrarian leaders had alleged that Sidhu was behind the clashes at Red Fort. Sidhu was arrested on February 9, 2021 on charges of inciting riots and criminal conspiracy. Sidhu was released on bail on April 16.
