New single ignites rap world with lyrical jabs.

Wale and Pusha T dropped their new track “Damage Control” on Friday, July 25, sparking conversations with pointed lyrics from Pusha T. The song, also co-signed by NBA star Anthony Edwards, is part of an upcoming Culture Jam compilation album. This new release sees Pusha T, also known as Push A Ton, seemingly targeting longtime rivals Birdman and Drake.

The project, titled Culture Jam Presents: Legend In My Hood, is curated by Edwards. This follows a 2021 compilation, Kawhi Leonard Presents: Culture Jam (Vol. 1), which was also curated by an NBA star. Eesean Bolden, founder of the creative studio Culture Jam, expressed excitement about the partnership.

“We are beyond excited to partner with Anthony [Edwards], his brother AnTony and the AE Five Enterprise team on this cultural musical compilation,” Bolden stated. “The story of Anthony and his brother is not only rooted in authenticity and inspiring, but it exemplifies Culture Jam’s ethos of authentic and compelling storytelling at the intersection of sports and entertainment. This partnership is a perfect match.”

Wale had teased “Damage Control” on Wednesday, July 23, via an Instagram post that included Edwards. Don Cannon produced the track, delivering spirited horns and marching drums. Wale’s verses flowed seamlessly over Cannon’s production, while Pusha T delivered his much-discussed bars.

“All I hear is birds, that’s just words in the booth,” Pusha T raps. “The realest Birdman, I just cock-a-doodle-doo / Doorstep, doorstep, I get it right through / Money talk, money talk, the wrist is light blue / Sugarhill sweet, s**t is feeling type 2 / Bruised egos, man, you n**gas might sue / New Jack Ninos telling on the crew.”

Pusha T and Birdman’s strained relationship dates back to Clipse’s departure from Cash Money Records. Drake is currently involved in a lawsuit against his label, Universal Music Group, concerning Kendrick Lamar’s track “Not Like Us.”

Despite these ongoing narratives, Wale and Pusha T have maintained their collaborative spirit. Their previous team-ups include “Only You Can Tell It” from Pusha T’s Wrath of Caine mixtape and “The Deep End” from Wale’s Festivus mixtape.
