Russian President Vladimir Putin supported the idea of ​​introducing non-working days in Russia from October 30 to November 7 with salary retention to prevent the spread of coronavirus. He made the corresponding statement at a government meeting, which on Wednesday, October 20, was broadcast by the Russia 24 TV channel.

“It is especially important now to bring down the peak of the new wave of the epidemic,” Putin said. He noted that the regions with the most difficult epidemiological situation may introduce non-working days from October 23, and also did not rule out that the non-working days may have to be extended after November 7.

Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Tatyana Golikova proposed to declare a non-working week due to the increase in the incidence of COVID-19.

In Russia, a new maximum daily mortality from covid

According to the operational headquarters, on Tuesday, a new maximum daily death rate from coronavirus was recorded in Russia for the entire time of the pandemic. In 24 hours, 1,028 people infected with COVID-19 have died in the country. A day earlier, the disease claimed 1015 lives. In total, since the beginning of the pandemic, according to official data, 226 353 people have died from COVID-19 and its consequences in Russia.

An increase in the number of deaths is recorded in Russia almost daily, starting from September 24. The psychological mark in a thousand cases was crossed on October 16.

The number of new cases of infection with the SARS-CoV-2 virus also remains at a high level – 34,073 cases have been confirmed in 85 regions of Russia over the past 24 hours. This is slightly higher than the day before (33,740). Since the beginning of the pandemic, according to official data, 8,094,825 people have been infected with the coronavirus in Russia. 7,065,712 patients were cured.
