According to a Ukrainian adviser, Russian soldiers have to go to the Ukraine war with old weapons. Videos should provide evidence.

the essentials in brief

  • Apparently the Russian reservists have to go to war with old and rusty weapons.
  • A ministry adviser in Kyiv has published a corresponding video as proof.
  • The Russians are said to have sent old Soviet tanks to the front.

The partial mobilization in Russia is in full swing – but apparently not everything is going according to plan. For example, unfit people have already been called up for the Ukraine war.

Another indication: apparently Putin’s reservists have to deal with old and rusty weapons. The adviser to the Ukrainian interior minister posted a video to support this claim on Twitter.

In the video, the recruits can be heard cursing the guns. “I’ve had enough… I won’t comment, I’m shocked.” So they were told that the rusty guns are good enough as they are part of a tank crew.

Online detectives identified the gun as an AKM. This is a gas-powered assault rifle introduced by the Soviets in 1959 to replace the AK-47. It was then officially replaced in Soviet front-line service in the late 1970s.

Adviser Anton Gerashchenko commented on the video as follows: “The mobilized in Russia receive plastic bags as well as rusty weapons.” He added: “They are told this is for the memory of the hands.”

He was referring to the Russian claim that the soldiers would not have to use the old weapons in the Ukraine war. The weapons are intended to help the fighters get used to the weight of the weapons they would later receive.

“But I assume that they will attack with these weapons,” Gerashchenko said. Whether the statements are correct cannot be independently verified.

Anton Gerashchenko previously shared another video that caused a stir: the footage is said to show Russian soldiers taking Soviet tanks out of the camp for the Ukraine war.

«Old Soviet tanks taken out of conservation by Russia. Without protection against modern weapons,” commented the Ukrainian interior minister adviser to this recording.
