Fear in Olliergues this Sunday morning. Around a hundred people had to be evacuated after the discovery of six shells in this village of Puy-de-Dôme, located around sixty kilometers from Clermont-Ferrand, reports France Bleu Pays d’Auvergne.

A man presented himself to the gendarmerie in the morning with a bag containing six shells, discovered while he was emptying his father’s house in a neighboring town. A security perimeter of 200 m was immediately set up by the police. Around a hundred people were evacuated. “When the gendarmerie called me, I asked them to repeat because it’s hard to believe,” Anthony Provéché, the village mayor, told France Bleu.

A mine clearance operation on Monday

The evacuated residents were welcomed at the primary school. Around fifteen police officers and around ten firefighters were mobilized. A diversion has also been put in place on a departmental road, specifies the radio.

The evacuees were finally able to return to their homes four hours later, after the Lyon mine clearance service confirmed that an intervention was not urgent. The mine clearance operation will take place on Monday and the gendarmerie will remain closed in the meantime, adds France Bleu.
