Qualcomm unveiled the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, the industry’s first mobile platforms built on a 2nm process, aiming to deliver significant performance gains and enhanced AI capabilities for upcoming Android smartphones. The chips, announced at the Snapdragon Summit on September 22, 2026, will power devices from brands including iQOO, Motorola, OnePlus, and Xiaomi.
New Chipsets Target Premium Smartphones
Qualcomm’s latest flagship chipsets are designed to power the next generation of premium Android smartphones, with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 positioned as the most powerful option, according to Etvbharat. Both chips are built on TSMC’s 2nm manufacturing process – a first for Qualcomm – and feature a custom Qualcomm Oryon CPU, redesigned Adreno GPU and the latest Hexagon NPU. Qualcomm describes its new products as the fastest mobile processors in the world, with an emphasis on on-device AI, gaming, and image processing.
Chris Patrick, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Mobile Handsets at Qualcomm, stated the launch of two flagship platforms at once was a milestone for the company. Patrick explained that as the agentic AI era progresses, their multi-flagship strategy allows them to expand the possibilities of mobile technology while making their latest AI innovations available to a wider range of premium devices, as reported by Etvbharat. He added that by creating two innovative platforms, they are providing OEMs with more options as they work together to define the features of the next generation of intelligent and personalized mobile experiences.
Performance and AI Improvements
Both chipsets utilize a CPU configuration with two Prime Cores reaching up to 5.0GHz and six Performance Cores clocked up to 4.0GHz, a first for smartphone processors, according to Nau. Qualcomm claims the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 delivers up to 13% better CPU performance compared to the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, while the standard 8 Elite Gen 6 offers a 10% increase. CPU efficiency improves by 37% across both platforms.

The standard 8 Elite Gen 6 sees a 35% GPU performance boost. A new feature, Adreno Neural Fusion, utilizes AI to enhance graphics and visuals during gaming. The Extreme variant includes 16MB of Oryon Flex Cache.
Qualcomm has also significantly upgraded the AI capabilities of the new platforms. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6’s GPU is an Adreno 850.
Connectivity, Imaging and Device Availability
On the imaging front, the chips feature a Spectra system with a triple AI-ISP supporting up to three 64MP sensors or a single 108MP sensor, with the Extreme variation supporting 8K video recording at 60 frames per second, according to Tomshardware. The standard model supports 8K video recording at 30 frames per second.

Smartphones powered by the new Snapdragon platforms are expected to launch soon, with Motorola already announcing its Signature 27 will utilize the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 later this year, 91Mobiles reports. Other brands including OnePlus, iQOO, and Xiaomi are also planning to adopt the new chipsets.
