RA Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs expresses its concern regarding the recommendation of the Executive Committee of the International Olympic Committee to remove wrestling from the program of the Olympic Games and hopes that the sport, which is popular in many countries, will still be included in the program of the Olympic Games.
Wrestling is considered a mainstay sport in many countries. Hundreds of thousands of athletes are engaged in wrestling all over the world, only in Armenia about 5000 athletes are engaged in this sport.
The RA Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs joins the statements made by other countries on the issue and accepts with optimism the comment of IOC President Jacques Rogge in this regard.
“The recommendation of the IOC Executive Committee does not mean that wrestling has been removed from the program of the Olympic Games. This sport will be in 2016. at the Rio Games. Federations of many countries are now working to include wrestling in 2020. in the program of the Olympic Games,” he said.
