Mumbai – Congress leader Rahul Gandhi with a letter written by Hindu Mahasabha leader VD Savarkar saying that he wants to be a servant of the British. Rahul Gandhi displayed Savarkar’s letter at a press conference held after the Bharat Jodo Yatra reached Maharashtra’s Akola district. Rahul said that Savarkar, who was very afraid of the British, deceived leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru and Sardar Patel into signing the letter.

While displaying the letter, Rahul told the media that this is a very valuable document for me. Rahul reminded that leaders like Mahatma Gandhi and Nehru had not written this kind of letter even though they had been in jail for a long time. Earlier, Rahul had criticized that RSS had no role in the country’s freedom struggle and that RSS was helping the British. During the Bharat Jodo Yatra in Tumkur, Karnataka, Rahul had alleged that Savarkar had received stipend from the British.

After displaying the letter, VD Savarkar’s grandson filed a complaint against Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of insulting his grandfather. He demanded that a case be filed against Maharashtra Congress chief Mama Patola for making such statements. The police said that no charge sheet has been prepared in the complaint and the case is being investigated.

Uddhav Thackeray wing of Congress ally Shiv Sena in Maharashtra rejected Rahul Gandhi’s remarks. Uddhav Thackeray responded that we respect Veer Savarkar and do not agree with what Rahul said in any way. Accusing the BJP of rejecting Bal Thackeray’s Hindutva tradition by ruling Maharashtra alongside the Congress and the NCP, Uddhav also asked the BJP to explain how it shared power with the PDP in Kashmir.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde responded that if Savarkar is insulted, the people of Maharashtra will not tolerate it. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is someone who does not compromise on nationalism for power. Shinde said that Rahul thinks he can challenge that Prime Minister. The Chief Minister of Maharashtra said that the people will teach a lesson to those who defame the leader who fought for the freedom of the country. Targeting Uddhav Thackeray, Eknath Shinde pointed out that when Rahul insults Savarkar, some people are taking a soft approach.
