The transport giants are now offering a longer train journey but not passing through Russia to import Chinese-made products into Europe.
The French CMA CGM through its subsidiary Ceva and the Dane Maersk are affected. Since April, international transport giants have been taking a little-used route to import “made in China” products into Europe: a route called “middle corridor», where the journey is mainly by train, but which includes some crossings by boat. “Containers arrive from China by rail to the port of Aktau, Kazakhstanexplains Maersk in a press release. There they are loaded onto a barge to cross the Caspian Sea to Baku, Azerbaijan. Then they go by train to Poti, Georgia, where they cross the Black Sea by boat to Constanta, Romania. Last step, they take the train, most often to Duisburg, Germany. A hell of a journey, which takes thirty days compared to only twenty for the traditional rail route, further north.
