Opposition leader and Jatiya Party Chairman Golam Mohammad Quader has expressed deep concern regarding the increase in railway fares as unreasonable and inhumane. At the same time, he demanded to maintain the pre-fixed fare of the railways.
In a statement on Saturday (May 4), he also said that the railway is the vehicle of the poor and poor common people. Rent is relatively cheap and safe. The current increase in railway fares will have a severe adverse impact on the lives of the poor and the common man. So I urge the government to maintain the pre-fixed rent.
In a statement, Jatiya Party Chairman said, for a long time, passengers used to get 20 percent discount from 101 to 250 km, 25 percent from 251 to 400 km and 30 percent from 400 and above. Now the fare has increased from Tk 20 to Tk 400 due to the removal of concession. The condition of the people of the country is already miserable due to the increase in commodity prices. On top of that, people’s normal income is being disrupted due to severe heat waves. In such a reality, increasing railway fares is unreasonable and inhumane.
Gholam Mohammad Quader also said that increasing the railway fare will cause unbearable hardship in the movement of common people. At the same time, the price of goods will rise again due to the increase in railway fare. Hence, it will adversely affect the lives of those who do not travel by rail.
We hope that by maintaining the railway concession, the government will keep the railway fare affordable to the common people, he said.
