Rising Dallas Rapper ZeeTheWizard Dies After New Year’s Day Shooting

A promising voice in the Dallas rap scene, ZeeTheWizard, whose real name was Zecqurie Fields, died on Monday, January 5, after sustaining injuries in a shooting that occurred in the early hours of New Year’s Day. The Dallas Police Department confirmed the tragic passing of the 25-year-old artist.

Police responded to reports of a shooting around 3:45 a.m. Central Time near the intersection of Empire Central and northbound North Stemmons Freeway. First responders discovered multiple victims at the scene, and five individuals, including ZeeTheWizard, were transported to a local hospital for medical attention.

The rapper was listed in critical condition upon arrival at the hospital and succumbed to his injuries several days later. According to reports from CBS News, the shooting took place outside of Pink Club, a newly opened strip club in Dallas that had been celebrating its grand opening on New Year’s Eve. As of Tuesday, January 6, the Dallas Police Department stated that the investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made.

Hailing from Oak Cliff, Texas, ZeeTheWizard was a key figure in the “New Dallas” movement – a collective of rappers advocating for unity and positivity as an alternative to violence. He collaborated with and stood alongside artists such as Zillionaire Doe, HeadHuncho Amir, and Montana 700. He also maintained a close relationship with established Dallas rap star BigXthaPlug.

The loss of ZeeTheWizard resonated deeply within the music community. HeadHuncho Amir shared a heartfelt tribute on Instagram on Monday, expressing his grief and shock.
