First, Kerobyan made a historical overview, he said: in 2000 Armenia’s export made 29.4% of GDP, import – 46.6%, in 2007. the share of exports in GDP has doubled to 15.5 percent, while imports have remained approximately the same at 43 percent.
“Our trade deficit was approximately 30 percent of GDP. In other words, we had a terribly big gap in terms of exports and imports,” Kerobyan said.
2022 summed up by the historical record. According to the minister, such a number has never existed in the history of Armenia. The ratio of exports to GDP was 48.3 percent, while imports were 51.3 percent.
“In other words, our trade gap is at a historically low level in 2022. As a result of the first quarter of 2023, our export-GDP ratio exceeded the target set by the government for 2026 and was 62.6 percent. At the same time, the number of imports was 64.2 percent. This, in our opinion, is a wonderful result,” said Kerobyan, adding that such a figure has never been seen in Armenia’s economy.
