– How are you preparing for the game you will play against Neftchi in the 31st round of the Premier League?
“With the end of the season approaching, there is a lot of pressure on us. But players and coaches, we are trying our best not to let that pressure get to us. In the next round we will have a game against Neftchi. The opponent improves his game from match to match. In the last match we saw a confident game against Araz-Nakhchivan. We are in the next position in the standings. There is a difference of 1 point between us. We will try to do our best, finish the game with a good result and win. But it is difficult to predict how the meeting will go. Because this is a historic team. There is a well-formed team and an experienced coach.
– You said that you are under pressure. But the fact that you haven’t won 7 matches already will be additional pressure on Neftchi? Have you talked to the players about this?
– We talked about this with the players, among ourselves. If you remember the last games we played at Neftchi Arena, we dominated those matches. We were unable to take advantage of the opportunities we had. “Neftchi” won, taking advantage of one chance it created. In general, the match, which ended at home with a score of 1:1, was more difficult for us. It is difficult to predict matches with Neftchi in advance.
– You started the season well, but later the club experienced a decline. In recent matches you have made a confident impression. How did you set up the team?
– We worked according to the same program, did the same work. Even when we didn’t win, there were games that I was happy with. There were matches where we won and I was unhappy with the team. We, the coaching staff, cannot be satisfied with one result. Therefore, we try to analyze the match and eliminate problems in the game plan even before the result. If there is no result and the game is good, we try not to cause discomfort to the players. But no matter how much we think about these moments, football players are always influenced by the result. There was one more thing that also bothered me. We couldn’t win, we couldn’t score. Fortunately, the players were not disappointed. We are still playing in the tournament, fighting for medals.
– After a long break, we again saw Araz Abdullayev on the field. What do you think of his performance?
– Abdullaev’s talent is known to everyone. He is a good footballer if he concentrates on his work. He can benefit any team. It is enough for him to pay attention to football and be attentive.
– After the match with Sumgayit, you said that you were interested in working abroad. What leagues would you like to work in?
– To be honest, as a football player, I didn’t think about any offer from outside the country, but when it came, I tried to evaluate it. The coaching career is a little different, but you can still think about it if there is an offer from the leagues of Russia and Turkey, from nearby countries.
– Recently there have been rumors that the number of teams in the championship could be increased. What do you think about it?
– Behind every decision there are negative and positive sides. We could lose a team like Gabala when one team falls and the other rises if their numbers don’t increase. It is unknown how they will return to the Premier League in a year. On the other hand, if we continue to adhere to the principle that no one leaves and no one stays, that too will fail. We have seen for several years now that this does not add much interest to the league. Let’s say 2 teams from a lower league come, this could change the principle and system of the championship. I don’t know how effective this will be or not. Or another point – are 2 teams ready to enter the major leagues? This begs the question. I definitely don’t think we’re ready for a 14-team system. I want our championship to have 18-20 teams, playing in 2 rounds. But over time we will have to come to this. Now I believe that we are on the right path, the number of teams is gradually increasing, but the quality is not decreasing. We must make a decision that does not harm our football and our clubs. The AFFA leadership will do everything possible and give impetus to our football.
