‘Raven’ at the International Film Festival entertainment

Short film ‘Dardkak’. It featured in three major film festivals including the 15th Indian Film Festival of Melbourne. Produced by Zayed Siddiqui, Jayant Chatterjee played the lead role.

Zaid Siddiqui said that the film will be screened at the 15th Indian Film Festival of Melbourne in Australia, the 10th Shimla International Film Festival in India and the 13th DC South Asian Film Festival in the United States to be held in August and September.

Only 12 short films have been selected for the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne. One of them is ‘raven’. It will be open exclusively to Australian audiences on the festival’s online platform IFFM365 from August 15-30. On the other hand, the film will compete for the Best International Short Film Award at the Shimla International Film Festival to be held on August 16-18 at the historic Gaiety Theater Complex in Shimla, India.

Apart from that, the film will compete for the Best Short Jury and Audience Awards at the DC South Asian Film Festival, which will be held in Washington DC on September 13-15. After screening at the festival, the film will be open to US audiences only from September 16-30 on the festival’s online platform, Eventine.

Director Zayed Siddiqui has written the film’s dialogues and script based on the short stories of famous writer Shahidul Zaheer. ‘Raven’ tells the story of existential crisis of Torab Sheikh, an elderly man dependent on other family members. Not earning money, he feels unnecessary in this world. He is angry and feels humiliated that his daughter is given in marriage without his knowledge. Torab Sheikh decides to voluntarily disappear. After he leaves, the rest realize how much his existence is desired in the world.

Ekushey Medal winning actor Jayant Chatterjee has played the role of Torab Sheikh. Aminur Rahman Mukul, Iqbal Hossain, Tuntuni Sobhan, Fazlul Haque, Tahua Labib Tura and A. B. M. Saidul Haque. Zereen Akhter Shimul and Akhlakuzzaman Khan made their debut through this film.

The film has so far been selected in 9 festivals in 7 countries. These include— 17th Bangladesh International Short and Independent Film Festival 2024, 12th Indo-German Film Week 2024 in Berlin, 7th South Asian Short Film Festival 2024 in Kolkata and India’s Round the Frame Film Competition 2024.
