Razer is pivoting from a recent foray into AI-driven personalization – which drew some attention for its unconventional approach – to more practical upgrades for its popular Blade 16 gaming laptop. The company today announced a novel iteration of the 16-inch machine, featuring Intel’s latest Core Ultra processors and high-speed LPDDR5X-9600 MHz RAM. The updated Razer Blade 16 is available for order now, starting at $3,500.
The Blade 16 has long been positioned as a middle ground between Razer’s ultraportable Blade 14 and the larger, more powerful Blade 18. Razer aims to maintain that balance with the 2026 model, offering a relatively thin profile – measuring 0.59 inches (14.9mm) at its slimmest point, matching the 2025 Blade 16 – alongside improved performance. The laptop retains the 16-inch QHD+, 240Hz OLED display of its predecessor, but Razer claims a brightness increase of 100 nits. Connectivity remains robust, with three USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports, a Thunderbolt 4 port, a Thunderbolt 5 port, a full-sized HDMI 2.1 port, and a UHS-II SD card reader.
A Shift to Intel Core Ultra
The most significant change in the new Blade 16 is the move away from AMD Ryzen processors to Intel’s new Core Ultra 9 386H chips. These chips represent Intel’s latest attempt to regain ground in the high-performance laptop market, utilizing the company’s new 18A process. Razer highlights the chip’s 16 cores and integrated Neural Processing Unit (NPU), capable of delivering “up to 50 TOPS” for tasks like image generation and live translation.
This NPU support positions the Blade 16 as a Copilot+ PC, meaning it’s designed to seamlessly integrate with Microsoft’s AI features. The efficiency gains from the new chip also contribute to an estimated battery life of up to 15 hours, a substantial improvement for a gaming laptop. Beyond the processor, the Blade 16 boasts NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 50 Series Laptop GPUs and supports up to 64GB of LPDDR5X-9600MHz RAM, ensuring ample power for demanding games and applications.
The Cost of Cutting-Edge Performance
The performance enhancements come at a premium. The Razer Blade 16 starts at $3,500, a price that reflects the increasing cost of components like RAM and storage. According to a recent report, HP estimates that RAM now accounts for more than a third of the cost of a PC, a trend exacerbated by rising demand and supply chain challenges, particularly those related to AI development. The base configuration includes 32GB of RAM, 1TB of storage, and a GeForce RTX 5080 GPU.
Display and Connectivity Details
Beyond the core performance upgrades, Razer has focused on refining the user experience. The 16-inch display, while maintaining the QHD+ resolution and 240Hz refresh rate, now boasts a peak brightness of 500 nits, a 100-nit increase over the previous generation. This improvement should translate to better visibility in brightly lit environments.
The Blade 16’s port selection remains comprehensive, catering to a wide range of peripherals and accessories. The inclusion of both Thunderbolt 4 and Thunderbolt 5 ports provides flexibility for connecting high-speed devices, while the HDMI 2.1 port supports 4K/120Hz output for gaming and entertainment. The UHS-II SD card reader is a welcome addition for content creators and photographers.

Razer is expected to provide further details on software optimizations and AI-powered features in the coming weeks. The company has not yet announced specific availability dates for international markets.
Looking ahead, Razer will likely focus on refining the software experience and optimizing performance for the new Intel Core Ultra processors. The integration of AI features, particularly those related to content creation and gaming, will be a key area of development. The next major update is expected to focus on driver optimizations and compatibility testing with upcoming game releases.
