AI wearables haven’t always had a smooth rollout. The Humane AI Pin, for example, garnered significant attention at CES a few years ago but ultimately became unusable after its servers were shut down in February 2025. Plaud’s NotePin has found a niche among professionals, but remains largely unseen outside of tech events.
Razer has been gradually integrating AI into its products—from game assistants to intelligent webcams—but Project Motoko represents a significant leap forward. This concept blends an AI-native computer into a high-end gaming headset, powered by Snapdragon platforms and equipped with dual eye-level cameras, offering a level of contextual awareness and processing power that smaller wearables simply can’t match.
Here’s a closer look at Razer’s Project Motoko and why it could succeed where other AI wearables have fallen short.
So Much More Than a Headset

At first glance, it resembled a potential contender for one of the best gaming headsets. However, the dual eye-level cameras quickly revealed that Project Motoko is something different entirely.
Razer couldn’t disclose the specific AI chip powering the headset during the demo, but confirmed it’s built on Snapdragon. Unlike smart glasses or pin-like wearables, Project Motoko appears comfortable and wearable.
I first observed a Razer employee using the dual eye-level cameras to capture images, then querying the built-in AI assistant about them. The headset can also continuously capture your field of view for real-time interaction, providing what Razer calls “stereoscopic precision,” allowing the AI to perceive depth and details beyond your peripheral vision.
A key difference between smart glasses and Project Motoko is battery life. The headset’s larger earcups accommodate a bigger battery, ideal for continuous capture, which is power-intensive. This also allows for bigger, more powerful chips for improved on-device processing.
In addition to the cameras, dual far and near-field microphones capture voice commands and environmental audio, improving voice recognition even in crowded spaces.
During the demo, the headset recognized a Japanese menu and translated it on the fly. It also identified three languages on a replica Rosetta Stone, pinpointing their locations on the tablet. The headset is compatible with leading AI platforms like Grok, ChatGPT, and Gemini.
I then had the opportunity to try Project Motoko myself.
An AI Wearable You’ll Actually Wear
Unlike attaching a pin or wearing unnecessary glasses, putting on Project Motoko felt natural—like any gaming headset.
The headset didn’t feel heavy, and without seeing the cameras, it’s easy to forget it’s more than just a typical headset. Of course, that could change if and when Project Motoko becomes a real product. Still, I experienced the power of AI at eye level without the awkwardness of a new device category.
I asked Project Motoko about an HDMI cable connecting a Razer laptop to a monitor, and it quickly identified it as “Razer green.” While simple, this demonstrated the vision system’s ability to understand complex contexts, from tracking gym reps to summarizing documents.
Audio feedback during the demo came through a Razer Leviathan soundbar. In a final product, the feedback would come directly through the headset’s earcups, providing a private experience.
Razer is also exploring how Project Motoko can contribute to robotics, using the captured human POV data—depth, focus, and attention patterns—to train humanoid robots for natural perception and decision-making.
While still a concept, Project Motoko impressed me. I’d need to test it extensively—at home and in public—before deciding if it could replace my current headset.
Not Just for Gamers
While Razer is a gaming company, Project Motoko has broader ambitions. A video showcased its usefulness not only with a gaming PC, but also in everyday scenarios.
The video showed the headset being used while fixing things and cooking, allowing users to ask, “What can I make with what I have here?” by simply looking at ingredients. Motoko acts as a full-time AI assistant, adapting to habits and providing on-the-fly audio feedback for tasks like translating signs or tracking workouts.
Convincing people to buy AI wearables is challenging. But a device that sits unused is pointless. With a comfortable, familiar form factor like Project Motoko, that barrier to entry may be removed.
Beyond personal use, Razer envisions Project Motoko aiding robotics development. By capturing authentic human POV data—depth, focus, and attention patterns—it can provide valuable datasets for training humanoid robots.
Whether Project Motoko will become a real product remains to be seen. For now, it’s a concept unveiled at CES 2026. However, I could see myself using a headset like this if it delivers Razer’s signature audio quality with the added benefit of AI assistance.
