A thrilling update for horror fans and awards season enthusiasts: the sequel to the 2019 hit “Ready or Not” is arriving sooner than anticipated, and British comedian Amelia Dimoldenberg will once again grace the Oscars red carpet.
“Ready or Not” Sequel Moves Up Release Date
Walt Disney Studios has announced a new release date of March 20 for “Ready or Not: Here I Come,” a week earlier than its previously scheduled premiere on March 27. The film promises to continue the darkly comedic and terrifying story established in the original.
Samara Weaving returns to reprise her role as Grace MacCaullay, alongside a stellar ensemble cast including Kathryn Newton, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Shawn Hatosy, Néstor Carbonell, Kevin Durand, Olivia Cheng, Nadeem Umar-Khitab, David Cronenberg, and Elijah Wood.
The original “Ready or Not” captivated audiences with its premise of a young bride hunted by her husband’s wealthy and eccentric family as part of a sinister, Devil-worshipping ritual. The sequel picks up immediately following the harrowing events of the first film. According to a company release, the official logline reveals a heightened stakes scenario: “Moments after surviving an all-out attack from the Le Domas family, Grace discovers she’s reached the next level of the nightmarish game — and this time with her estranged sister Faith (Newton) at her side. Grace has one chance to survive, keep her sister alive, and claim the High Seat of the Council that controls the world. Four rival families are hunting her for the throne, and whoever wins rules it all.”
The film is directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, with a screenplay penned by Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy. Production is led by Tripp Vinson, James Vanderbilt, William Sherak, and Bradley J. Fischer. The original “Ready or Not” proved to be a significant success for Searchlight Pictures, costing $6 million to produce and grossing $28 million domestically, becoming the studio’s highest-performing release in 2019.
In a separate announcement, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences confirmed that Amelia Dimoldenberg will serve as their social media ambassador and red carpet correspondent for the 98th Academy Awards, marking her third consecutive year in the role.
Dimoldenberg, known for her popular YouTube series “Chicken Shop Date,” will be involved in multiple events leading up to the ceremony and will conduct interviews with nominees and talent on the red carpet. The 98th Oscars will air live on March 15 at 7 p.m. ET on ABC and Hulu, with red carpet coverage beginning at 6:30 p.m. ET.
“We are delighted to welcome Amelia back as our social media ambassador and red carpet correspondent, offering viewers worldwide an exclusive glimpse into the Oscars,” stated a senior Academy official. “Amelia’s vibrant personality and engaging interviews continue to resonate with audiences.”
Dimoldenberg launched “Chicken Shop Date” in 2014, gaining widespread recognition for her unique interview style conducted in casual chicken shop settings. The series has amassed a substantial following, with 3.3 million subscribers and 981 million views on YouTube, and a combined reach of 16 million followers across all platforms.
The return of both a highly anticipated film sequel and a beloved social media personality promises an exciting start to March for entertainment enthusiasts.
