Last Saturday, a convoy of 20 humanitarian aid trucks successfully entered the Gaza Strip through the Rafah crossing, with approval from Israel. The trucks were carrying much-needed supplies including medicine and flour. The incoming aid was supervised by officials from the United States and Egypt, and upon arrival, it was received by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), which supports refugees in Palestine.

However, concerns have been raised about the distribution of aid within Gaza. Shifa Hospital, the largest hospital in the region, issued a statement through its spokesperson, revealing that no aid has been received by the hospital thus far. Many are now questioning the whereabouts of the aid and whether it fell into the hands of Hamas, the ruling party in Gaza. IDF spokesman Daniel Hagari further emphasized that the aid trucks did not carry any fuel.

In a speech delivered at the “Peace Summit” in Cairo on Saturday, the United Nations Secretary General stressed the importance of consistent and adequate humanitarian aid for Gaza, considering the region’s numerous needs. The UN is actively coordinating with all parties involved in ensuring the delivery of aid.

Five United Nations agencies, including the United Nations Development Program, the United Nations Population Fund, the World Food Program, UNICEF, and the World Health Organization, have confirmed that the aid convoy entering Gaza through Egypt’s Rafah crossing is indeed providing life-saving support to civilians. Nonetheless, it is clear that this initial effort falls significantly short of meeting the overall demand.

Meanwhile, additional countries have also pledged to send aid to Gaza. Qatar has announced the dispatch of two military planes carrying humanitarian supplies, with Egypt serving as the transit point. Similarly, the Foreign Minister of Kuwait has declared an “air bridge,” specifically for transporting humanitarian aid and medical assistance to the people in Gaza.

The Algerian Presidency has also joined the collective effort to aid Gaza. In an official statement released on Saturday, Algeria revealed its decision to send urgent humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip through Al-Arish Airport in Egypt, using the Rafah crossing as the entry point. The Algerian President, Abdelmadjid Taboun, personally ordered the provision of this vital aid.

Although international aid is making its way to Gaza, the question of its distribution and adequacy remains. Efforts are ongoing to ensure that humanitarian aid reaches those in need and that the support is sufficient to address the dire situation in the region. The international community continues to rally together in solidarity to aid the people of Gaza during this challenging time.
