Like me, you’ve probably often topped store-bought puff pastry with apple slices and then served it up as a quick cake – okay with cream, but not exactly anything special. This apple pie is completely different.

Of course, it can’t hold a candle to a French Tarte Tatin or a covered apple pie. But let’s not kid ourselves: sometimes we just don’t have much desire or time and still have to bake a cake.
