The American Pharmacists Association expressed concern about record shortages of all types of medications in the United States, calling on politicians to take action.
A statement published on the association’s website said: “In the first half of this year, 323 active drug shortages were recorded. This is a record number that exceeds the previous record of 320 shortages in 2014, and at the federal level, great work must be done to eliminate the main causes of drug shortages.” .
The statement added that particular concern is raised by the shortage of sterile injectable medications, including chemotherapy drugs to treat cancer and emergency medications stored in hospital treatment rooms. Another serious problem is the continuing shortage of methods for treating attention deficit hyperactivity disorder in the country.
