The rector of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), Leonardo Lomelí Vanegas, together with the director of the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN), Arturo Reyes Sandoval, received the head of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), Bill Nelson.

This meeting marks a milestone in the scientific collaboration between Mexico and the United States in the aerospace field.

The head of NASA expressed his enthusiasm for the “golden age of space exploration“, highlighting the importance of international cooperation in space research projects, from lunar exploration to defending the Earth from asteroids and understanding climate change.

At the meeting, Nelson invited academics, students and representatives of the Mexican Space Agency (AEM) to join NASA projects, emphasizing that the future of space exploration is international.

The meeting was praised by the UNAM Scientific Research Coordinator, María Soledad Funes Argüello, who highlighted NASA’s role in advancing knowledge of the cosmos and welcomed the American delegation to the university.

For his part, William Lee, from UNAM, highlighted the importance of collaboration between NASA and Mexican institutions, while Pamela Melroy explained NASA’s willingness to establish international partnerships and offer resources for research.

Arturo Reyes Sandoval, director of the IPN, thanked the American delegation for the visit and highlighted the relevance of working with the academy on space projects, mentioning notable initiatives such as the Mexican Climate and Atmospheric Composition Observatory.
