Thiruvananthapuram ∙ Red alert of extreme rain has been completely withdrawn in the state. Orange alert in 12 districts except Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam today due to possibility of heavy rain. 2 districts are on yellow alert.

Widespread rains and isolated very heavy rains are likely over Kerala till Sunday, as a cyclonic circulation over the central-west Bay of Bengal near south Andhra Pradesh and north Tamil Nadu.

The death toll in the rains has reached 17. 5 deaths yesterday. There are 3 people to be found including 2 fishermen. Manarkad Pandarathikunnel Amal Mathew (18) in Kottayam district and Thotakam Indamruth Dasan (70) in Thalayazham panchayat fell into the water and died. A student drowned in the Srivallabha temple pool in Tiruvalla, Pathanamthitta. Suresh Kumar’s son S. Kashinath (16) died in Mannankarachira Keezhuparam.

Kannampathur Puthanpurakkal Babu (53) drowned in Uzhinjalpada, Thrissur Pudukkad. Body of missing youth found in Itthikarayar, Kollam. Naufal (21) of 71 Sajina Mansil, Anugara Nagar, died. Former teacher Kulathungal Lata (55) went missing in the current at Bhimanadi Koorakund in Vellarikund taluk of Kasaragod.

Two dead bodies were found in the sea near Chavakkad Chetua Harbour. The helicopter that came down to search for the 2 fishermen whose boat broke down and got stuck in the sea found the bodies floating in the sea about three and a half kilometers away. By the time the rescue boat arrived, the bodies had washed away. Red alert was announced in 10 districts but was withdrawn yesterday afternoon.
