Regeneron Company: The drug against the corona virus is less effective against the Omicron strain

by time news

Regeneron announced today (Tuesday) that the antibody cocktail it has developed against the corona virus has been found to be less effective against the Omicron strain. It was also reported that new components or antibody coupling may need to be adjusted.

The drug Regeneron, or medically known as REGN-COV2, contains two types of neutralizing antibodies. It is given by infusion at an early stage of the disease to patients in mild to moderate condition, in order to stop the spread of the virus that has entered the body through the respiratory system and prevent its entry into additional cells.

The drug must be given only at an early stage when the neutralizing antibodies may inhibit the further spread of the virus. Taking too late is not effective, because then white blood cells of type T come into action, whose function is to destroy the antibodies that managed to enter the cell. According to studies, the drug may reduce the deterioration in the condition of patients by about 70%.
