Manuel Segade will replace Manuel Borja-Villel as director of the Reina Sofia Museuma position he will reach after almost ten years at the helm of CA2M, the Madrid Community’s contemporary art museum, as announced by the Ministry of Culture and Sports.

The minister, Miquel Iceta, will propose this Tuesday to the Council of Ministers the appointment of Segade to replace Borja-Villel, who announced last January that he would present his candidacy to continue in charge of the museum after fifteen years in office.

Segade (A Coruña, 1977), has been the candidate who has obtained the highest score in the selection process that began on February 10 with the publication in the BOE of the call for the position.

This Monday the museum’s Board of Trustees met and Iceta was informed of the finalists chosen by a committee of experts. The minister has opted for Segade and tomorrow he will raise the proposal for his appointment to the Council of Ministers.

Currently director of the Dos de Mayo Art Center Museum (Móstoles), dependent on the Community of Madrid, Segade is Bachelor of Art History from the University of Santiago de Compostela.

He has curated for two decades (2003-2023) numerous exhibitions in national and international institutions and has served as a professor in university programs in South Africa and Brazil.

In addition, he is a founding member of the European Art Assembly, a meeting point for several European contemporary art directors on urgent issues in contemporary art and a founding member of the European Forum For Advanced Practices, supported by the COST European Community network.
