The relations between Poland and Ukraine sharply worsened after Poland extended the ban on imports grain from Ukraine to protect the interest of its farmers.

Farmers in Poland held multiple protests against imports from Ukraine in 2022/2023.

First of all, Ukraine’s trade representative in the EU, Taras Kachka, said that his country will sue Poland before the World Trade Organization because of the ban. He also said that as a retaliatory blow, Ukraine will introduce an embargo on Polish fruits and vegetables.

Yesterday it was reported that Warsaw had summoned the Ukrainian ambassador to give explanations for the words of Volodymyr Zelensky before the UN General Assembly. The President of Ukraine, speaking about the export of grain, said that some nations are pretending to be in solidarity with his homeland.

This statement apparently angered the rulers of Poland, which has supported Ukraine since the first day of the war. About one million Ukrainians already live in the country. Apart from that, it was through Poland that a large part of arms imports into Ukraine passed. Warsaw also provided MiG-29s and Leopard tanks to its neighbor’s military units.

Yesterday, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said Poland would no longer send weapons to Kiev and would instead focus on its own defense.

“Ukraine is defending itself against Russia’s brutal attack, and I understand that situation, but we will defend our country,” he said.
