Thiruvananthapuram – Governor Arif Muhammad Khan has signaled that he will not compromise in the fight with the government. The governor may appoint a commission to investigate the appointment of relatives of CPM leaders in universities. The proposal is to appoint a commission consisting of a High Court judge, a retired chief secretary and education experts. It is learned that the Governor has communicated with legal experts in this regard. The Governor will announce the decision after returning from Delhi on 24th.
The governor sought information about the Kerala University senate meeting passing a resolution against him. Raj Bhavan forwarded the information regarding this. The Vice-Chancellor Dr. Action is likely to be taken against VP Mahadevan Pillai. The Governor, who is the appointing authority, has the power to suspend or dismiss him. The term of VC ends in September.
The Governor is deeply dissatisfied with the action of the Senate in passing the resolution. Dissatisfaction is that issues that can be discussed and resolved have been dragged into the public through the resolution. As the time for setting up the search committee to select the VC had passed, the committee was constituted with representatives from the Chancellor and the UGC. It was also decided to include the name of the Senate representative as soon as it becomes available.
As the tenure of the search committee is 3 months, the nomination of the Senate representative will expire if it is extended. The search committee is complete only after the Senate representative is selected. The party has decided to elect the Senate representative after the passage of the bill, as a bill to change the composition of the search committee will be introduced in the coming assembly session.
